"…The Legion seeks to promote interest in Star Wars through the building and wearing of quality costumes, and to facilitate the use of these costumes for Star Wars-related events as well as contributions to the local community through costumed charity and volunteer work…"
Who are the 501st Legion?
The 501st Legion is an all-volunteer organisation formed to bring together Star Wars costume enthusiasts under a collective identity within which to operate.
Southern Cross Garrison
As the 501st Legion is a worldwide organisation, areas are divided into garrisons making it easier to manage events locally. The Southern Cross Garrison is a part of the 501st Legion.
The Southern Cross Garrison, founded in July 2009, is part of the 501st Legion and has a growing membership of 113 volunteers covering NSW and ACT.
Squads allow a regional focus for volunteer members at more local events and with a greater presence, bolstering the efforts of our greater Southern Cross Garrison family, while proudly upholding the ideals of the 501st Legion through professional conduct, fellowship and enjoyment of the cause.
Hunter Hornet Squad
Established in 2016, the Hunter Hornet Squad focuses its efforts on supporting and nurturing the 501st Legion membership in the Hunter Region.
Black Tower Squad
Formed in 2018, Black Tower Squad primarily covers the Canberra and Queanbeyan areas, while members also reside further afield in locations such as Goulburn and Albury.
What we do
The Southern Cross Garrison supports our local community by attending events such as fundraisers and awareness campaigns. These can include fundraisers for local schools or larger events such as MS Walk + Fun Run and Relay for Life.
We also visit children's wards at local hospitals where we help to bring smiles to faces that need it most. Our members often cite these as some of the most rewarding experiences.
The garrison also helps our community by fundraising for The Black Dog Institute.
The 501st Legion does not charge for appearances however, we do ask for donations to support The Black Dog Institute so they can continue their research into understanding, preventing and treating mental illness.
